This basket was made through the Kinamba Project in Kigali, Rwanda. Basket – making is a Rwandan traditional craft. Containers are made from sweet-grass. Different colors of dye are used to create intricate geometric designs.
Classes at the Kinamba project enabled older women to pass on their skills to the younger generation, many of whom suffered severe disruption to their early lives and formative years due to the genocide and its aftermath. Now, the project members can earn money from the sale of their products.
